Lets start closest to home! Our working hill farm is set in lovely green countryside, quiet and unspoilt. From the doorstep of your Dales holiday cottage you will find a number of walks. These varied paths include those that will take you along lively streams, past waterfalls, through bluebell-filled woodlands and onto hilltops with spectacular views across the Cautley Valley. The famous Alfred Wainwright, who so loved the Dales, Pennines and Lakeland Fells includes a walk into the Howgills that passes the doorstep of Hebblethwaite Hall Farm.

Cautley Spout is England's highest waterfall, with a broken cascade of falls tumbling down the fellside for 650 feet. Just a couple of miles from our Yorkshire Dales cottages, Cautley Spout is a very attractive spot. Walkers of an ambitious nature can climb the steep path alongside the falls, while those with less energy will find the flat path through the valley to the base of the falls easier going and picturesque.

The Howgills are a group of fells in Cumbria and these picturesque peaks can be seen from Hebblethwaite Hall Farm. Sandwiched between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, walks to these fells are particularly rewarding because of their fine views of both. Made popular by Wainwright's 'Walks on The Howgill Fells', these atmospheric hills he described as looking like a 'herd of sleeping elephants'.

Sedbergh is a pretty market town situated at the foot of the picturesque Howgills. As you approach this pleasant and peaceful place you will see signs declaring it to be 'England's Book Town'. And true enough, you will find a great many bookshops to browse, with many a fine cup of tea or nice meal out to be had too. A wander through its pretty streets and lanes is very rewarding, and it is also a great place to stock up on supplies and to visit the Tourist Information Centre for information about this delightful area. Sedbergh has its own golf course for a stimulating challenge in a picuresque setting and there are others to try nearby.

There are lots of lovely towns and villages within easy reach of Hebblethwaite Hall Farm and its Yorkshire Dales holiday cottages. The cobbled streets of Dent are a real delight, with both its 12th century Norman church and The Dent Brewery being well worth a visit. Kirkby Lonsdale is a great town to visit for its nice independent shops and the ancient monument of Devil's Bridge, while visitors looking for scenery can also enjoy exploring the pretty hamlets of Garsdale. Dent and Garsdale also have stations on the Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the most scenic routes in the world.

Although in Cumbria and not far from Windermere our holiday cottages have the added advantage of falling within the boundaries of Yorkshire Dales National Park that offers outstanding scenery and a rich cultural heritage. Spectacular waterfalls, rolling hills, lakes, craggy peaks and deep ravines come together to provide visitors with a rich and rewarding landscape to explore.
